Spike Jonze made a campaign video for Al Gore, which it seems never aired. Fraud and foolishness, a fair amount of it judicial, kept us from having as president a thoughtful, intelligent fellow. Folksiness is no replacement for wisdom.
In the various left/right debates that I've read and heard, liberals are often called idealistic and pie in the sky, while conservatives are supposed to be pragmatic and responsible. W, for example, ran in part on a platform of putting the adults back in charge. Now, several violent years later, it turns out that the conservatives weren't very responsible. They elected to pursue an unwinnable war in order to further a distant and now seemingly unattainable goal. Some conservatives, it seems, have their own problems with unrealistic idealism.
