I've had my second "I'm smoking a cigarette" dream. It happened last night. While I was sleeping. No warning at all and there I am, in the middle of a Home Depot parking lot, lighting up a Parliament. I never even ever was a Parliament smoker. I started on Camel Lights, moved to Kools for a month or so (in Philadelphia - it seemed like the thing to do at the time), then back on to Camel Lights. Delicious Camel Lights.
So right now it's 4:42 and I'm stuck in a make up class for EU law. I wish I were somewhere else. Day started out ok - my Free Speech prof was showing a documentary called McLibel, about the British libel case brought by McDonald's against two people who handed out leaflets describing why McDonald's sucks. It was pretty good. Only really odd thing was that they had several scenes where they performed dramatizations of the court transcripts, often with actors. While it's awkward, it does help to get some of the trial in the movie in some form. Fast Food Nation guy appears throughout as a talking head.
At one point, he's talking about the possibility of drastic community change - giving up megacorps or fast food or logos or whatever it is. He says that while it seems like drastic change is improbable, he was born in a country which had legal discrimination. That's terribly optimistic. Another way of phrasing this might be to say that it's been 140 years since the end of slavery, yet bondage of a sort remains.
Though, like Paul says, I've got to admit it's getting better.
